About

The building that is now home to Barrel of Books and Games in Mount Dora used to serve as the city's police and fire station. Five officers stand in front of the building next to a car with "Mount Dora Police" on the driver-side door.

From 1941 to 1969 it was the city’s police and fire station, but, since 2013, 128 West 4th Avenue has been home to Barrel of Books and Games. Our independent bookstore in the heart of downtown Mount Dora sells new and used books for all ages in addition to board games, collectibles, and puzzles.

We first opened the store on West 5th Avenue in September 2011, so, to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we have revamped our online store and curated a collection of popular books, games and puzzles you can have shipped to any location in the United States or, for locals, quickly brought to you via curbside pickup or local delivery. Read more about our shipping and delivery options here.

In-Store & Online

We will gradually be adding more and more of our in-store inventory to the online store and, most likely, have anything you don’t see here in the physical store. Of course we can always order something for you if we’re out of it! Just send our owner, Crissy Stile, an email if you have a request or questions.

Barrel of Books and Games owner Crissy Stile accepts trade in books from a customer at the checkout counter.

Trade-Ins

When you shop in our physical store, you can trade in your gently used books for credit towards our used books. Read more about our trade-in policy here.

Events

We also host a monthly book club on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6pm. All are welcome, no reservations needed. Check out the dates and books for each month on our Events page.

Please stay tuned for updates on upcoming author events, too! We have hosted amazing authors like Gilbert King (pictured with owner Crissy Stile), Jan-Phillip Sendker, Oliver North, Stuart Woods, Randy Wayne White, Dr. Eben Alexander, and Tim Dorsey over the years and can’t wait to start hosting more in-person events again soon.

Crissy Stile, owner of Barrel of Books and Games, stands next to Gilbert King, author of "Devil in the Grove" at a book signing hosted by the store.
